SAILING
IN DODECANESE ISLANDS: |
Rhodes
island is the largest island of
the Dodecanese complex and the fifth
largest island of Greece (after
Cyprus, Crete, Euboea and Lesvos)
and one of the most ideal places
to start sailing
to the Dodecanese islands. The island's
soil is fertile and has a lot of
trees and water plus its in a short
distance from the Turkish coastline.
Some of the most famous tourist
destinations are located in Rhodes,
like Faliraki, the old town, Lindos
e.t.c.
|
|
Rhodes
has a mediaeval atmosphere because
it was conquered by the Knights
of St.John and a lot of mediaeval
castles and walls seem still untouched
by time. What is so special about
Rhodes capital city is that it
combines 3 different time eras.
The
ancient, the mediaeval and the
modern one. The modern site of
the town looks just like any other
modern town in the world.
|
The
mediaeval site of the city
has almost every wall that
the knights builded plus a
n outstanding castle. Its
a pitty that the roads leading
to the castle are full with
restaurants, cafeterias and
shops.
The
ancient part of the city has
the ruins of the temple of
Zeus, athena and Apollo, a
Stadium, Gymnasium and the
theatre that have been restores.
Sailing to this magnificant
island is a unique experience.

Sailing
in Kos island
Kos
is a beautiful island of the Dodecanese
complex that has bases for yacht
charter companies if you
want to go sailing
to the island. An advantage of the
island's location is the distance
between the Turkish coastline and
between Nisyros island that offer
miles and miles of fun.
|
|
Kos
is the only island that not only
does not decrease in population
but the opposite, it is increasing
rapidly. After all it has a strong
economy due to the tourists that
prefer this lovely and cheap island.
Renting a scooter or a car will
be a solved problem since the island
is well organized and provides solutions
to any kind of requests. The people
of Kos are friendly and most of
them speak english too. The port
of Kos is nice and shallow but overcrowded
during summer time. |
Kos
island has also mediaeval
atmosphere just like Rhodes
because it was also occupied
by Knights.
Visit
this island and go sailing
